My New Family
Progress Update | 29/11/2021
Hello there you wonderful and cute people out in the world!
Another week, another progress update!
Now that the My New Memories update is released for everyone, I'm shifting my focus back to My New Family. I'm already making decent progress on the first day again but I'm taking it a tiny bit slower, mainly because I just released an update for My New Memories ( and because certain people forced me to take a break :P )
With 0.22 I want to shift the focus of My New Family a bit. Well, maybe shifting focus is not the right term. For the last few updates it felt like the MC was just heading from woman to woman, from date to date and from lewd event to lewd event. There were some more meaningful events that progressed some background story, but that's just what it felt like to me ( and some other people ). I want to make more meaningful and impactful events, events that stay in your head even after you are done with them. Think of the night in the hotel with Sandy, for example. If you played 0.21 you probably remember that Sandra and the MC wanted to head home one the first day to spend the night there. This is where I want to start these events again, these meaningful solo events with only one girl. There will be a lot of different things they're going to talk about, all of them regarding their future ( and if you are on the harem path with everyone getting pregnant, you will get some important infos regarding My New Family 2 through subtle dialogues ).
I also have a very special morning event planned for the second day, before Sandra and MC drive back to the vacation place. Like I said, I plan to do these events more again. This doesn't mean that there won't be any time with more than one girl, especially with the gingers or Mary, Becca and Elaine, for example. Just that the events will have more impact again and don't feel like a groceries you're checking off ( "I visited Maddie, next on the list is Kiara" for example ). I don't want it like that anymore. You will see what I mean once you play the update, but I hope this brings a new breeze to the game, especially because the timeskip is coming soon!
I don't want to leave this progress update without saying anything regaring My New Memories, though. First, the render in todays news is just a little fun render I made with Lina. I've been reading all of your comments and messages on the discord regarding the update and it seems like Lina is quickly becoming one of your favorites, so I thought a special render with her would be neat.
After the cliffhanger at the end of Chapter I things will change drastically again for the MC. There will be a bit more of a ... Let's say, extreme emotional moment, right when you start Chapter II. A lot of things will happen at once in a very short period of time, all while the MC is still on the phone. And this event will play very differently depending on the choices you made - Did your MC sleep alone that night, or was he with someone? This will have a pretty impact on how this event will unfold. There is also some other things that will happen in Chapter II. I'm just going to throw in a name.... Jessica. That's all you're going to get from me, for now. This is still all in early concept phases and the fully focused work on Chapter II will start once My New Family 0.22 is complete. That doesn't mean I'm not already writing a little bit, though.
And I think that's it for this week. I enjoyed the update with MNM. I am just going to go ahead and say it. This is really a very clever story. Whilst the MC is suffering from amnesia, or by the point at the end of this update, is also back to his normal self, whatever that maybe, we still have someone else who is actually more important than the MC himself. Namely his wife Anna.
Anna is really important for a number of important reasons, but mainly it is her who is the entire glue in the family. She also somehow is able to speak to the MC when he falls asleep at night and slowly gives him his memories back.
(this is really interesting, because I have heard of something like this that has really happened not once but on numerous occasions. Where somehow the person in the coma is able to communicate to their loved one when the loved one is asleep. Astoundingly when the person who is in the coma wakes up, they are able to repeat pretty much word for word what they have said when they where in the coma ! The fact that its been proven time and again, that coma patients can hear and feel through tactile contact, only leads to the speculation on how those coma patients are potentially able to actually communicate with their loved ones when they are in the coma. It's weird. I am not sure if there are any scientific facts behind how they are able to do such a thing but I still finding it very interesting.)
Anna is also extremely important to each of the family members as well as collectively, without her, I suspect there would be no family, as they would all drift away to do their own things.
I just hope that Anna is not left to stew for endless amounts of months in her coma, infact the sooner she wakes up the better it is for everyone. I don't think the dev will kill her off, there is no real reason to do so, since there is far more to gain with her than alienating a lot of people by killing her off...lets be honest her right now...Anna is very clearly and very obviously the woman behind the MC's harem..she is fundamental to the story throughout imo.
The thing they wanted to tell everyone at Christmas is so painfully obvious and yet the MC seems completely utterly clueless. They went to a celebratory weekend on their own. They stayed in a hotel, in this hotel she tells gives him and us a huge hint that this is something very big they want to share with the rest of the family. Next the MC claims to himself that the hospital would have done tests when she was admitted, they would have told him. (well, I can tell you, if I thought what he was thinking at that moment what this surprise was, I would have explained to Dr Slatni the reason why I would want to know if there was any tests conducted, I mean this is a seriously huge thing and if he had told Slatni what he suspected, those tests would have been done almost instantly regardless of her state.) There are several other dream sequences where she gives him humongous hints. Even after those he is still utterly clueless...then we get to another hospital visit where he see's Slatni in the elevator, and he tells the MC that they are now able to perform the tests that could not be performed previously because of her unstable condition.
The therapist woman ... I think she is either connected sexually to the MC or Anna or even both, but I think it's the MC. However she hasn't really let anything slip yet..but there is something more to her than meets the eye. A lot more to her than some simple therapist.
Looking forward to the next update with baited breath and anticipation, I just hope it won't take as long for this next update as this last one did, because this is really good story telling, it blows MNF out of the water imo and I am a fan of MNF too.
Love your work! Both your games are excellent!! ..one thing that I've been wondering lately tho, is if you have plans for the MC to introduce/bring Tanja to meet the rest of the family as his gf and how they would react.
Even tho Lucy did say before that she doesn't care anymore about what Tanja did, I don't think it would be that easy for anyone just to forget/ignore the kind of things Lucy had to go thru if she ever saw/met her again.
Not saying that I want to see any fighting or that kind of drama. But would like to see how they would come to terms and eventually accept Tanja as a friend of the family.
When 0.22???? I am wery impatient. Yo are wery good story writer. I love to spend my time with this stories. It`s make me smile.
I love both your games and didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to sound ungrateful, but I do agree with you that by the end of 0.21 it kinda felt like a "grocery list" (and not the wholesome one from my new memories) I still love the game and I hope that sometime after Christmas I can either support you on patreon or buy my new memories on steam
Mate, I have said this before, but your character writing is probably the best there is for VNs. I'm glad you noticed that MNF was starting to feel like a bouncing pinball. Much as I like harem-style games, the potential for an over-crowded diary is quite high. Fortunately, you're taking steps to introduce some mental breathing space for the MC. Keep it up!
You have, rightfully, a tremendous amount of fans. I hope their comments, or complaints, do not ever change YOUR VISION for MNF (or MNF2 & MNM), because it is perfect. I have completely enjoyed what you refer to as a shopping list of females. I have completely enjoyed the more tender moments too--in fact, they have brought me to tears more than once.
I am very excited for what is to come--and even more so because you are headed in a direction that has charged up your batteries, so to speak. If you "don't want it like that anymore" then neither do I.
